Statement: Dawnfresh takeover

Central Scotland MSP Monica Lennon said: “News that Thistle Seafoods has taken over the Dawnfresh plant is potentially a bright new beginning for the workforce and the local community.

“I hope we see a difference in culture after the Dawnfresh workers were appalling treated by their former employer.

“Although 40 workers are set to be retained by Thistle, 160 workers lost their jobs when Dawnfresh went into administration back in March. While many have found alternative employment, those looking for work within the community will be hoping to benefit from Thistle’s recruitment plans.
“Recent experiences have highlighted the need for protection at work and I have written to the Scottish Government asking what discussions it has had with Thistle Seafoods about its commitment to Fair Work and the continuation of trade union recognition at this important workplace.”
