The campaign to save the X1 bus route between Hamilton and Glasgow is facing fresh challenges after it has emerged First Glasgow will be reviewing the service again at the end of February.

Monica Lennon MSP has been supporting local residents who are fighting to save the route which provides a vital transport link or people in Hamilton and is calling for more to be done to secure the future of the service.

The Central Scotland MSP has pledged to make further representations to save the route and is supporting efforts which urge the public to increase use of the important service.

Scottish Labour MSP Monica Lennon said:

“Keeping the X1 bus service is vital to people in Hamilton – and I stressed that point repeatedly when I met First Glasgow last year to discuss the importance of the direct transport link to Glasgow.

“I’ve raised the X1 with the Transport Minister in Parliament and pushed for councils to be given more power over local bus routes  and I will be making further representations to South Lanarkshire Council and SPT about what can be done to protect this service for the future now that First has indicated it will be reviewed again at end of February.

“I pay tribute to local residents and bus users who have campaigned tirelessly and I am pleased that there is cross-party support right behind them.”
