Monica Lennon MSP demands answers over NHS Lanarkshire ‘humanitarian emergency’
Monica Lennon, Scottish Labour and Scottish Co-op MSP for Central Scotland has today raised concerns in the Scottish Parliament for the safety of patients and staff and patients, telling the Health Secretary NHS Lanarkshire is the “crisis within a crisis”.
“Lives are being lost needlessly. This is a humanitarian emergency.
“My constituents in Lanarkshire have spent over a year spiralling in and out of Code Black status, meaning patients and staff are exposed to the highest level of risk.
“The Scottish Government has made some welcome announcements today, but it’s not enough.
“The right mix of immediate and long-term actions are needed, and addressing poverty wages in the social care sector is essential.
“That is why a serious national conversation on safeguarding the survival of the NHS and its founding principles must happen, sooner rather than later.”
