Monica Lennon MSP Commends Net Zero Apprentice Employer Of The Year

Central Scotland MSP and Member of the Net Zero, Energy, and Transport Committee in the Scottish Parliament, Monica Lennon visited Advanced Clothing Solutions (ACS) recently to meet with their apprentices.

The visit to ACS, whose headquarters are in Eurocentral, formed part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week organised by Skills Development Scotland, which ran from the 7th to the 11th of March with the aim of promoting apprenticeship work.

Monica Lennon MSP said, “Apprenticeships are vital way for young people to learn new skills and discover new career paths, and I am delighted to be backing Apprenticeship Week 2022. It was great to visit ACS and discuss fashion and the circular economy, whilst touring their circular fashion hub where I met with apprentices, who highlighted for me what great work apprentices do for businesses not just here in Lanarkshire but all across Scotland.”

“Visiting ACS, I spoke with former apprentice Jack Dornan, who as a result of his achievements and successes during his apprenticeship has become a permanent employee with ACS. Apprenticeships like Jack’s are helping ACS improve its carbon footprint which will be pivotal to the company achieving net zero by 2025.”

“From working with Special educational needs (SEN) schools on 1 year traineeships to their refugee apprenticeships, ACS ensures that a diverse range of people get the best start in the working world, whilst gaining valuable skills.”

“Despite the huge benefits apprenticeships deliver for young people and for our economy, such as those by ACS, apprenticeships have been in decline over recent years and we need “real ambition” for the next generation and a transformation of apprenticeships.”

ACS is a sustainable fashion company that has been delivering eco-friendly alternatives to the fast fashion industry since 1997 through sustainable cleaning and dress rentals whilst urging brands to get pre-loved items back on their shelves. During Scottish Apprenticeship week, ACS took home the Supporting Net Zero Apprentice Employer of the Year award at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards, which took place virtually on Wednesday 9 March.

Scottish Apprenticeship Week is co-ordinated by Skills Development Scotland and aims to encourage uptake of Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships by employers and individuals.  Skills Development Scotland Chair and Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board Co-Chair Frank Mitchell said, When it comes to supporting sustainable skills through workforce development or providing opportunities for young people, we know that apprenticeships work. The combination of commitment from employers and the backing of Scottish Government will ensure apprenticeships work for everyone, making a significant contribution to Scotland’s recovery and productivity growth.”
