Labour campaign to end child burial fees adopted by Scottish Government
The Scottish Government have announced that they will end child burial fees, after calls from Scottish Labour to make funds available to councils to enable them to do this.
Monica Lennon MSP had previously written to Scottish Government Ministers for Communities Angela Constance MSP to ask her to consider the scheme.
Commenting on the announcement, Monica Lennon MSP said:
“I welcomes this news, as I have been asking the Scottish Government to make funds available to help councils put an end to child burial fees.
“It was disappointing to see the Scottish Government playing catch up on this issue, with the fees already waived in England and Wales after a spirited campaign by Labour MP Carolyn Harris.
“Ministers must honour this commitment and ensure Scotland’s councils have the funds to remove the burden of child burial fees from bereaved parents.”
