Free Sanitary Products in Scottish Government

The head of the civil service has agreed to provide free sanitary products in all government buildings, in response to Monica Lennon MSP’s campaign to end period poverty.

Labour MSP Monica Lennon lobbied government bosses to set an example for other Scottish employers.

It comes after the Scottish Parliament rolled out a free sanitary products scheme for staff and visitors last month.

Monica Lennon MSP said: “My member’s bill will eradicate period poverty but the wider campaign is about changing our culture so that periods are no longer a taboo subject.

“Free access to sanitary products in workplaces lets women know they are valued and makes good business sense.

“I hope other bosses will follow the Scottish Government’s lead and I’m hopeful NHS Scotland will roll out a similar scheme for staff and patients.”
